Hidden History of Eureka Springs

★★★☆☆
Hidden History of Eureka Springs is an entertaining, if lightweight, history of one of the Ozarks’ most colorful, lively, and unlikely towns. What began as a relatively cohesive and linear telling of Eureka Springs’ birth and its early years quickly devolved into little more than a series of anecdotes and vignettes. It’s all interesting, but it’s clear Joyce Zeller is more fan than historian, more appreciator than writer. While there are doubtless better and more cohesive books written about the town, Zeller’s Hidden History of Eureka Springs is more than adequate for scratching the itch of anyone who’s been and anyone who’s planning to go.
