From Water, Strength
Some creative work begins with a client. Some begin with a tragedy.
From Water, Strength was created in response to the devastation left by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita as part of 25 Above Water, an invitational exhibition bringing together designers and artists from across the country to raise funds for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund through the sale of limited-edition prints.
Created in collaboration with Justin Wright, the piece explores an idea that felt especially urgent in the wake of the storm: that strength is often shaped—not diminished—by the forces that test it. Rather than illustrating disaster directly, we chose to create an image that spoke to endurance, resilience, and renewal. The title became an invitation to see beyond destruction toward what remains possible.
Printed as a limited edition of ten archival iris prints, From Water, Strength became part of a collective response from the creative community—using design not to sell a product, but to participate in healing.
